Archduke Franz Ferdinand: Archduke of Austria-Serbia before WWI. His assassination sparked a series of events which led to the first World War.
Nationalism: Deep devotion or pride in one's country.
Militarism: When a country mobilizes their army during a time of peace.
Allies: Russia, Britain, France (Later the U.S.A.)
Central Powers: Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy
Trench Warfare: Man-made trenches that allowed soldiers to have a lot of extra protection, but slowed down the war's progress immediately.
Western Front: The France- Germany border where fighting occurred.
Eastern Front: The Russia-Germany border where fighting occurred.
Gallipoli Campaign: France and Britain joined together to invade the Ottoman Empire capital Constantinople. The attempt failed.
Ottoman Empire: Now Turkey, was a central power and supported Germany in it's quest.
Zimmerman Telegram: German leaders sent a "telegram" to their Mexican ambassador, hoping to get Mexico as an ally, which would make it easier for Germany to attack the U.S.A. But, Great Britain intercepted it, sent it to the U.S.A, and this helped U.S.'s decision to enter the war.
Total War: Where every single resource is put towards the war. This includes children, woman, etc.
Propaganda: A biased document in an attempt to persuade someone to join their side or to believe in their beliefs.
