This is president Woodrow Wilson's speech to the U.S. Congress on April 2, 1917, addressing the issue of the German's sinking U.S. and U.S. allies' ships. The German's, two years earlier, promised to stop unrestricted submarine warfare, but broke their promise with the sinking of the U.S. ship Lusitania. Although the U.S. and Great Britain claimed it to be innocent cargo, the German's sunk it anyways. Lucky for them, it did turn out to be carrying war materials for the Western European countries. He also mentions the Zimmerman Telegram, where Germany tries to get Mexico as an ally to have easy access into the United States.
